A stump left in the lawn is a tripping hazard, a mower killer, and a place where ants and decay settle in. Stump grinding takes the stump down below grade so you can mow over it, plant grass, or build on the spot without ever knowing it was there.
We run a self-propelled grinder into the stump and chew it down 6 to 12 inches below the surface, then grind the big surface roots that stick out. The chips get raked back into the hole or hauled away, and the spot is left level. It's the cleanest way to make a stump disappear without a big excavation.

Stump Grinding Questions
How deep do you grind a stump?+
Standard is 6 to 12 inches below grade — deep enough to mow, seed, or build over. If you need a deeper grind for a post hole or footing, tell us when we come look and we'll price it for the extra depth.
Do you call 811 before grinding?+
Yes. We're a Gopher State One Call (811) member and we have utilities located before any grinding, because a grinder hitting a buried gas line or service wire is exactly the kind of thing you don't want to guess at.
What do you do with the chips?+
We rake the chips back into the hole to fill it and leave the spot level, or haul them away if you'd rather have clean soil. Chips are also great for garden mulch if you want to keep them.
Can you grind a stump I can't reach with a machine?+
Most residential stumps are reachable with our self-propelled grinder through a standard gate. If access is truly impossible, tell us when we come look and we'll talk through options.
Will the stump grow back after grinding?+
Grinding takes the stump and the root collar below grade, so it won't resprout from that point. Some species send up suckers from the remaining roots; we can treat those if it's a concern.
